    Community Advisory Committee

    Dear Parents and Legal Guardians:

I am writing to invite you to attend the CAC meetings and serve as our district’s CAC representative. What is CAC, you ask?

CAC is the acronym for Community Advisory Committee. CAC serves the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) in an advisory capacity in accordance with State Education Code. The purpose of the CAC for Special Education is to advocate for effective Special Education programs and services, and to advise the Board of Education on priorities in the SELPA.

As one of 14 school districts, our district belongs to the West San Gabriel Valley Special Education Local Planning Area commonly called as the SELPA. The West San Gabriel Valley SELPA’s Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is primarily comprised of parents who care deeply about their children’s education and their educational outcome. The CAC representatives are appointed by their respective District Governing School Boards. The State Education Code mandates that each SELPA must have a CAC and that a majority of CAC members be parents.

In our SELPA, CAC meetings are usually held 6 to 8 times a year. These meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Joining the CAC gives you an opportunity to have your ideas and opinions heard and make a difference in the way Special Education is conducted in our SELPA and in our district. I invite you to attend the CAC meetings and to consider nominating yourself to be the CAC representative for our district.

Please to complete the Interest Survey. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for any other details about the CAC. I thank you and applaud you for supporting special needs children in our community!
